I loved this book
I loved this book! It took place in my hometown of Madisonville. I'm already looking forward to the Branson's next book! Great story!
I absolutely loved this book
I absolutely loved this book. It was spell bounding and hated to put it down. What a beautifully written story.
the first love Wayne felt between a simple farm girl who was ...
Shortly after the death of her mother, Grace Taylor learns she has a secret half-brother. Set out on a mission to find him, she learns an entire history of her fathers dark past. A journey through the 1930âs which includes an abusive childhood, a teenage pregnancy, war, infidelity and the eventual death of his secret son.
Jack and Mary Branson have a gift for creating a believable world full of emotional turmoil. So much so, that Iâm not entirely sure if I just read a fictional story or someoneâs memoir. I felt sadness for this entire family. The gap between Grace and her sister Bonnie, the first love Wayne felt between a simple farm girl who was far below is intellect, and his eventual family he almost tore apart due to his dark secrets and emotional insecurities. I am not quite sure how his wife, Victoria accepted his abuse and excuse of âjust leave it,â but then again, this was a different time and wives behaved differently.
A well told story with three dimensional characters that will stay with me long after the book has been completed.
Spell-binding! Heart-break and Redemption.
I read this book from cover-to-cover in one sitting. It was such a powerful story of how secrecy can affect (and sometimes damage) family relationships, and the value of honest conversation to understand a person's motives and history. Anyone who has been wounded in dysfunctional relationships (that's all of us) will identify with the storyline. I really enjoyed all the great references to my hometown.
Highly recommend!
I was drawn in by the second page! Read it in two days during a hectic week but couldn't put it down. The Branson's writing is guarded by truth, and so it never offends no matter how heartbreaking the events described.
