Time for the first English episode of Hummus mit Hintergrund!
What is Islamic, Muslim, Arab and Secular Feminism and why is it such an important topic, especially for people from the so-called west?
How can we assess the tendency to discredit well-established feminist discourses in the MENA region by referring to western, liberal forms of feminism?
Starting with a brief historical introduction into the late 19th and early 20th century and especially into the particularities of feminist thought at that time, the episode is trying to make sense of political and societal developments with regard to women’s movements and feminisms.
In a lively discussion Dominik and his guests, Nourhan and Sabrina, touch upon urgent topics, such as the labelling of feminisms and the framing tendencies of certain kinds of feminisms. Moreover, the episode picks up the most recent court decision on the headscarf in Germany and puts it into the larger context of being a Muslim and feminist woman in Germany.
