Things you need to know about ARABIC

Arabic Regular Present Tense Conjugation: 5 Things you Need to Know

Listen Later

1. There are prefixes and suffixes in the present conjugation.

2. The conjugation with “you”, masculine singular is the same as with “she”. Also, three dual forms have the same conjugation (you, masc. and fem. + they, fem.)

3. Prefixes take the vowel “a”, except for 4-letter verbs, which take a vowel “u” on the prefix.

4. Suffixes are either a short vowel “u” or a number of letters.

5. There are three present forms: · Regular present (muDaare3 marfuu3) · Subjunctive present (muDaare3 manSuub) · Jussive (muDaare3 majzuum)

BONUS TIP: the first information an Arabic dictionary gives you about a verb is the middle vowel you need to conjugate a verb in the present. You need to know it for every three-consonant verb (form I). You cannot guess it.
