Discover ancient forts, monastic sanctuaries and hidden histories with the Aran Islands Audio Guide
The Aran Islands are situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Galway and Clare. The islands have inspired artists and writers for generations, and today they remain a place apart, with their own distinctive culture and vibrancy.
On our journey we’ll hear the story of the O’Brien family of Aran Island Ferries and their long association with the islands, we’ll explore subjects like the islands’ prehistoric archaeology, and natural heritage and we’ll hear of the iconic stone fortresses like Dún Aonghasa. We’ll also hear of how the islands became renowned as a centre of learning for Ireland’s early saints, how numerous writers and artists have found inspiration here and what life is like on the islands today.
