Today we're headed to the small city of Ararat, Victoria in Australia! Ararat, or Aradale Asylum was the largest asylum of its kind for the time and housed some of the most notorious criminals in Australian history. It also inflicted horrific abuses on its patients and even took its toll on the staff. The beautiful, Italianate compound hid these atrocities and others behind it's carefully sculpted lawns.
