  • 30. James-Olivia Chu-Hillman: Supporting A Scared Parent Around A Child’s “Dangerous” Behavior

    My guest is James-Olivia Chu Hillman, one of my mentors and someone who has taught me SO MUCH about relating!

    //

    In this episode, I bare my heart to James-Olivia and they share their skills around holding non-judgmental space.

    //

    TW: We discuss an incident at my son's school where he threatened to bring a 6un to school and how well (sarcasm) that went over with the school authorities.

    //

    I struggle with knowing what type of accountability is "fair" and "right" to hold a young, neurodivergent child to, without "pissing off" everyone for letting something so serious "slide."

    //

    I share this conversation in the hopes that it resonates with other parents who have had similar struggles, of themselves or their child getting vilified by the over-culture, and of struggles around how to do compassionate and appropriate accountability in an over-culture that over-couples accountability with punishment.

  • 29. Melanie Piazza: Creating Family Village Coop - A “3rd space” of community, co-working & childcare

    My guest today: Melanie Piazza, Founder of Family Village Coop

    About Melanie and Family Village Coop:

    Founder Melanie Hekkelman-Piazza came up with the idea for Family Village in response to raising an infant and 3 year-old while also caretaking her terminally ill mother (in a town she'd just moved to). Fueled by desperation, isolation and rage, she gathered like-minded mothers and set to work building the space of her dreams. Within six months, the doors were open and lives were being changed. Six years and more than 250 families later, Family Village continues to buck the status quo of childcare and parenting norms to bring families the work-life balance they crave.

    We talk about:

    • ~ A win-win-win + what Melanie brings to the spaces she leases

    • ~ Why Melanie started Village Coop

    • ~ Sacred rage

    • ~ Mothering + entrepreneurship

    • ~ The million dollar question about how mothers chose to invest in themselves vs investing in others/things outside them

    • ~ Melanie’s own entrepreneurship journey

    • ~ Doing entrepreneurship intuitively/”unprofessionally”

              • 24. Normalizing Expansion/Contraction Cycles, Neurodiversity, The Wisdom of the Crescent Moon Phase

                <3 Please leave a review, rating, subscribe + share! <3

                In this episode I muse on:

                ~the medicine of the crescent lunar phase, persephone/the high priestess, normalizing + unshaming expansion + contraction cycles, especially with neurodiversity.

                ~contraction does not mean failure, conversely it is proof of expansion.

                ~contraction is for rest, recovery, energetic recuperation,  and analysis, not for shame/self-doubt/quitting/permanent failure.

                ~expansion/contraction is actually a more generative rhythm than baseline stability or linear progress.

                ~cyclicality has its own stability and predictability even if it is more dynamic than something linear and stagnant.

                ~with expansion/contraction it’s important to look for progress not in the short term, but over the long trajectory.

                ~the high priestess/the persephone myth holds the energetic of the crescent moon.

                ~the crescent moon is a mysterious liminal space between the 0/Fool and the 1/Magician.

                ~the crescent moon has the energetic of pendulating between the safety of the womb and the risk of expanding identity

                ~the energetic of how the generator (HD) moves through life is a stair-step curve, very similar to the expansion/contraction rhythm.

                ~ASD/PDA people (and many neurodiverse ppl) will naturally experience expansion/contraction cycles because of their unique nervous systems.

                What started out as Molly and I wanting to geek out and dig into T Swift’s latest album turned into an incredibly rich musing on love, relationships, what relationships do for us and to us, as well as how stories and storytelling can help with personal healing and wholeness.

                Molly is one of my favorite people to talk to because of how rich, deep and insightful our convos always are, so don’t miss this one, even if the title or description isn’t tugging you - that’s on me and my copywriting, it is not a reflection of the not-to-be-missed deliciousness of this episode!

                "I got to know myself as a different person in that relationship." -M

                "We can only mirror wholeness to the extent that we are whole & the other person is open to being whole." -C

                "Take a story you’re telling yourself about something and challenge yourself to tell this story three different ways." -M

                "In relationships, there is only initiation." -M

                "You get to have a multiplicity of stories." -C/M

                "In relationships especially, we need access to both the experiencing self and the witnessing self." -C/M

              About Archetypos Podcast

              From the publisher's feed

              This is a show about re-imagining and re-enchanting relationships - with ourselves, with others and with the world - with appearances from the archetypes of the heretic, the wild child, and the trickster.
