In the last 3 years the UK's ARB have increased our architect registration fees by a whopping 67% 😳
In 2021 the fee was £119 and in December 2023 you will be required to pay £199.
At this rate it won’t be long before ARB catchup to RIBA membership levels.
That’s an extra £3.3 million in fees over 3 years! I’m not seeing any of that money going to look after “protection of title” or maybe I’m wrong?
ARB has also announced new fees for schools of architecture for accreditation of courses. Previously there was no fee charged. ARBs' role in monitoring professional standards was seen as part of what the registration fee covered. Now they are asking institutions to pay £9,200 per year from January 2024.
In addition, there are charges for approving course changes at a couple of thousand per course. This is an immediate annual addition to ARB's coffers of about £600,000. There has been no consultation about this.
One wonders what these fees and the registration fees (which must amount to about £9 million) is being spent on.
I will demand a halt to any further increase in fees but what else do you want me to highlight that ARB are not doing right and are they overstepping as a regulator into membership issues?
