Cult is defined as a devotion directed toward a particular figure or object and a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing. This can include oneself. Many have chosen to look to themselves for the answers to life. This is nothing new. Mankind has sought answers since the beginning of time, but very few have sought them from our creator, God. Therefore, a culture of self-love and self-reliance has increased in our world today. Today’s mantra is “just do what makes you happy,” “just be who you feel you are inside,” “just do you,” and “it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.” Are these healthy views of life? How do we overcome a lack of self-esteem? Is the right answer to just do what sounds good to me? Is my opinion to be placed above everyone else?
