Are Mormons Going To Be Saved?

Listen Later

This morning's sermon tacked the question as to whether or not our LDS friends and neighbors will be saved. Of course, this question is more difficult to answer than what immediately meets the eye. The first challenge is to take into account the motivation of the questioner: It it from an individual who has friends and neighbors whose spiritual condition they worry about? Maybe the question comes from one of the many LDS persons we have who attend our service. Perhaps the question is coming from an individual who is convinced that our LDS friends and neighbors are outside the grasp of God's grace? Here is the short answer: God invites all of us to respond to him in repentance, Wherever we find ourself at the moment of surrender, we begin a life long transformation process. But make no mistake, we do not have to earn our salvation or think of our relationship with God as a meritocracy.
Our Gospel reading, found in Matthew 20:1-16, reminds us that we serve a God who is actively pursing workers to come and join him in what he is doing. We have all been extended the joy and privilege of serving with each other for Jesus. We are called to rejoice that his graciousness and kindness pursues all of us, even to the very last hour of human history. If God has indeed given us the message of reconciliation, then the answer to the question as whether or not Mormons are going to saved is largely going to answered by our intentional involvement in joining God is his work of reconciling all of creation back to Himself. The first question for us is this: What kind of community do we want to be? Are we going to be a fragrant aroma to our community so that when we enter into relationship with them, they want to the Jesus of history?
Remember, God wants all to come to a saving knowledge of him in relationship. We are saved, not by our works, bur for good works, which God has prepared in advance for us to do. We are not only saved from something (judgement), we are saved to something (good work for the Kingdom) but even more than that, to SOMEONE. Can we people who work with joy for our King with the expectation that desires that all be saved?
