I just want to share one of my friends experience here and I want to analyse it.

Last week she was little busy and this week she is free due to complete lockdown in chennai. One of her wats up group member put up the question to her in the above manner. " Looks like you are free for this week. Why can't you do this ?"

Is it the correct way of asking ? Is it not initiating the other person's ego even if the person want to do some help basically we can't take advantage of people's time. Right ?

I have decided to know the basics behind and followed the correct way of asking help from others. What about you ?

Can – “can you help me?” which means are you able to help?

Could – “could you help me?” which means is it possible for you to help?

Would – “would you help me?” which means are you willing to help?

Other modal verbs are possible too but these three are the most common ones when asking for help. If we need to be really polite when asking for help like when we are talking to a colleague or our boss or a customer for example, it's a good idea to include “would you mind”.

Would you mind helping me?
