Steven Furnell reexamines the ongoing challenges posed by passwords, including continued bad practice and lack of support offered to users. While problems are likely to persist, there are now signs of viable alternatives being offered in some contexts. While none represent a panacea, they may reduce dependency upon passwords and offer options better matched to users’ authentication needs.
