Are you a thermometer or a thermostat? 

A thermometer measures the temperature of the environment. It simply reacts to what is happening around it. If the temperature is cold, it tells you. It has one purpose and one purpose only.

No on the other hand, a thermostat, regulates the environment. It sets the desired temperature of the room and actively works to maintain it within a given range. If the temperature rises or drops below a goal, the thermostat signals the air conditioner or heater to warm up or cool down the room. It constantly scans the environment and adjusts to the goal. A thermostat is a leader.
