Find Your More: The Cassie Woods Show

Are you actually asking for support or just expecting it?

Listen Later

In this episode, we explore the importance of asking for support in achieving our goals. Do you actively seek the support you need, or do you simply hope that those around you will understand and provide it? Having the support of the people close to us, including our network and those we want to impact, can make a significant difference in our journey toward success.

Lack of support can be a major obstacle for many women, whether it's from their spouse, family, friends, or even their social media community. Feeling unsupported can discourage us from pursuing our goals and make us doubt ourselves. The absence of interest, engagement, and buy-in from the people we need to align with can hinder our progress.

The impact of lacking support varies from person to person. Some individuals are motivated by the absence of support, fueling their determination to succeed. Others remain neutral, while some are completely halted by the lack of support, whether it comes from their spouse, family, friends, or even negative feedback and disinterest on social media.

In this episode, we discuss a strategy for obtaining the support we need. Often, we assume we have clearly asked for support and buy-in, but in reality, our communication may be lacking. Improving how we communicate and showing up in our relationships and networks to help others understand how to support us can be a game-changer.

The first and most important person to have support and buy-in from is ourselves. Our own opinion of our goals, potential, and future matters more than anyone else's because no one knows us as deeply and intimately as we do. If our goals don't ignite a fire within us and we lack the discipline to pursue them, perhaps they aren't the right goals for us. We need to believe in ourselves before expecting validation and belief from others. Leadership begins with leading ourselves and painting a clear picture of our vision and goals.

We delve into the importance of asking ourselves deeper questions to gain clarity. What are our strengths, values, and purposes? Why do our goals matter? How do they impact our lives, our families' lives, and the lives of those who matter to us? By understanding these aspects and asking ourselves these questions, we develop conviction and certainty, which are highly influential qualities.

Once we have our own support and buy-in, we can learn how to ask for support from those around us. Effective communication is key, as lack of communication is often the reason we feel unsupported or misunderstood. When onboarding new business partners, for example, understanding who supports them is crucial. By clearly communicating our targets, why they matter to us, and what we need from others, we create a plan for effective support. Opening up our hearts, even if it feels vulnerable, and allowing space for growth and improved communication skills are essential.

Additionally, we discuss how to get support from our communities, networks, and those we aim to partner with. By making our goals about them and showing how our actions will positively impact their lives, we create a compelling reason for them to support us. We explore the concept of "what's in it for me" and emphasize the importance of clearly communicating why our goals matter and what others stand to gain by supporting us.

Ultimately, the key lies in improving our communication skills, developing conviction, and enlisting the support of others. It's important to recognize that we can't change other people, but we can work on ourselves and learn the necessary skills and strategies to bridge the gap between where we are now and where we want to be. Remember, your goals are within reach, and with the right support and communication, you can achieve them.
