Episode #2: Welcome to the She Builds Show, I'm your host, Stefanie Olson. Today, I want to talk about business and entrepreneurship and where that foundation was laid for me. Why did I choose creating my own business and the hard life of an entrepreneur over a cushy day job, a nine to five? I went to school to be a teacher, went all through college, working at all these nasty restaurants. And I had a teaching job for an entire miserable year after I graduated with my credential. So I did work for the man from about age 14 to 23. But when I look back, I don't think I ever really chose entrepreneurship. There was never a deciding moment. I feel like it just kind of chose me. My father ran his own business, my whole life. So to me, working for yourself was a normal thing in my upbringing. My dad read every investing book you could ever think of and literally made my brother and I play the Rich Dad board game called how to get out of the rat race, which is a game teaching you how to generate cashflow through the yard of investing in real estate, stocks and companies. So the idea that success means that you just simply work until you die or until an employer or government program affords you a standard of living that enables you to make ends meet without further paid work. That wasn't really the status quo I was taught to achieve. I was taught to swim against the current to create my own path.
