Are you Good? Matthew 12:33-37Jesus is describing here, immediately after going into a few doctrinal statements- is saying to his disciples- if you want to see if you’re where you need to be- check your fruitAnd the fruit is easy to see- it comes from mouth, what you do, and pay attention bc at judgment day you’re going to answer for everything you said and did. YIKES! Did your stomach sink? Mine did! I want to get this right- I want to honor God- I want have fruit. I want to look at the fruit, examine it- and if it aint good- get it RIGHTMy neighbor- tons of grapes- “have all you want” yeah man- seeded grapes- Not great fruit. Still fruit- but not great fruit. I want great fruit. You should want great fruit. 

1.Good tree good fruit

33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.Jesus continually used agrarian examples for his disciples because they are immediately known to them, but quickly applicable to anyone for thousands of years- good tree good fruit. Bad tree bad fruit. Years ago- watching one of those go out into wilderness and try not to die shows- they found a tree with pretty fruit- everyone buy like 2 people didn’t eat it- everyone else lost and went home almost dying. Looked good- even tasted good- but it wasn’t a good tree and it wasn’t good fruit. toxicLuke 6: 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.Jesus wants his disciples to have good fruit from a good tree. A tree is going to be known by it fruit- what does it produce?Jesus is the tree- he produces good fruit he wants the same from his dsiciples. Matthew 7:16 JESUS Said- You will know them by their fruits. Everyone in this room knows what Jesus means- it really doesn’t even require an explanation. Good fruit is sweet, flavorful, satisfying, nutritious, easy to pick and reproduce, and everyone loves it. No one wants bad tasting fruit from any tree- no one. You cant give it away. And he says “Make the tree good” you have to get at the root to make this happen. If you are a bad tree you are not going to make good fruit- it has to be a good tree and Jesus says “make the tree good. What does it mean to you?How do we make a tree good? Starts with good ground prep. I like to research stuff. I research stuff that I never do anything with but when I’m bored on the internet that’s what I do. Building a boat etc. I researched how to get a good apple tree and site prep is paramount! Where you plant it, when, how, the soil, all of it- if you want to get good fruit. Whats the root of the Christian? Repentance. Now- people say that isn’t the root of Jesus but repentance is turning to Jesus- its being rooting and grounded in him. Be planted in him. Not yourself.  And if you haven’t repented to Jesus- it is impossible to bear good fruit. When Jesus said in Matthew 3:8 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,He was describing it quite aptly- turn towards Jesus be grounded in him, you produce good fruitEzekiel 18:31 Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed,  and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?This is an eternal Gospel truth- turn from sin, get a new heart, have good fruit. Many people don’t have this because they haven’t been converted- they are trying to do it alone on their own strength.
