We are told that we only remember 20% of what we hear, and that we only hear 80% of what is being said to us.  Most of what we miss is because our minds are already on to something else before the other person is finished talking.  Our inability to actually hear what the other person is saying affects our relationship with them.  Even when the other person is God himself.
