My Dyslexic Life

Are you okay with telling someone you are dyslexic

Listen Later

How do you feel about telling someone you are dyslexic?

It can be scary, and it can feel like a huge thing to disclose, I get it.

But actually, if you can tell someone that you are dyslexic and you need some extra time, or you need some help or you need information in a different way - it will empower you so much more.

You see when we don’t tell people, we end up in a state of fear or anxiety, worried that we will make a mistake, worried that we will get something wrong, worried that they will think we are dumb.

If you can tell the other person you are dyslexic, it free’s you from that fear. It means they know what is going on and what you need.   This was the advice I gave my son before he went on his travels - that it is better to say he is dyslexic rather than try to hide it.

Don't forget to check out the Truth About Dyslexia Programme, where we help adults with dyslexia understand their brains, find out how they really work and discover how to maximise them to build your confidence and your life.
