KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The irony of the moment when I collapsed was that I was wearing a suit – because that’s how I thought you had to dress to be successful – but I had to rip off my tie and open my shirt and jacket. I had to take off these things I thought made me successful to be able to breathe. That day everything changed.

  • After the collapse I went back to Germany and moved in with my Dad and I returned to a childlike state where I started having panic attacks. My Father took me with him and his wife to a fasting retreat and took me with them because I couldn’t be left alone. I didn’t want to go, but after a few days I noticed everyone else there was having a great time, clearly they knew something about life that I didn’t and maybe a different approach to life wasn’t that bad. This was where began meditating and mindfulness.

  • Some people need the breakdown, but you don’t have to have one. It’s the thing that woke me up. I wish I’d had someone giving me the right ideas like you do on this show. However, I’m glad it happened when I was 27, I was the youngest person in the burnout clinic and I realised I still have a lot more years to live better!

  • The great thing about coaching is that the clients are there by choice, unlike therapy where they have to do a certain number of sessions because they have to. But some people prefer to go deeper into issues than others.

BEST MOMENTS

‘It was thinking either something’s fundamentally got to change or you’re going to die. And both options felt alright at that moment which surprised me.’

‘The connection to your body can tell you so much. Your heart gives you signs all the time, you just have to notice it.’

‘I’d never thought about thoughts before. The idea that some of our thoughts are not true is shocking to some people, but the greatest liberation from the ego.’

‘We create our reality. If you’re the problem, you’re the solution.’

ABOUT THE GUEST

Jan Broders is an internationally sought-after coach and speaker with clients from LA to Hong Kong, from Dubai to Berlin.

After burning out at the age of only 27 (literally collapsing in the middle of the hotel lobby he was working at) Jan had to spend two months in a clinic to recover and get back on his feet. That day was the worst and best day of his life as it led him to turn around completely. Jan travelled the world for three years, became a dad, and started his own coaching practice. Today he lives in Mallorca, Spain with his wife and 2 kids.

Jan has run his exclusive coaching practice for seven years now, supporting high achievers and working with large corporations on implementing mindfulness, stress management, and resilience programs. He has coached supermodels, executives, members of parliament, doctors & psychologists.

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
