One of the most common things that you will hear about investing in individual stocks is that it takes on too much risk. The sentiment of such a statement is not wrong, but I think that it is misguided. I do not think that you should keep from investing in a group of good individual companies that you understand just because they pose a little more risk than a large group of companies. Abnormal returns have never been sustained with large amounts of diversification within one asset class, so I won't change my view now. Today, we will discuss:
1. Where risk comes from
2. How single stocks do have more risk than funds
3. How more risk is not necessarily a reason not to invest
4. How to invest in lieu of the risk
