Ariana Lucas is a Californian-born mezzo-soprano graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music before moving to Germany. She made her debut as Erda in Das Rheingold at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and later became a long-standing ensemble member. Since 2024 she has been part of the ensemble at Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Most recently, she gave her long-awaited debut as Klytemnästra at Konzerttheater St. Gallen, and this season she will make her debut at the Komische Oper Berlin singing Leokadja Begbick in Kurt Weills Mahagonny. Ariana visited me at KLASSIK DOPPIO together with her wife, Lucia Lucas.
Lucia Lucas has made history as one of the world’s first openly transgender opera singers. She has performed on some of the most renowned stages, including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the English National Opera in London. Beyond the classical repertoire, Lucia is deeply engaged with contemporary works and world premieres – among them Lili Elbe, an opera written especially for her. In 2026, she will bring Lili Elbe to the United States in its premiere at the prestigious Santa Fe Opera Festival. Lucia visited me at KLASSIK DOPPIO together with her wife, Ariana Lucas.
