Fear. It can save your life. Anyone who has ever seen the fearlessness of a baby walking from the sidewalk into a street with oncoming traffic knows that fear can be really good. But not all fear. There is a much more insidious version of fear that isn’t good. In fact, it’s wreaking havoc in the lives of Christians all over the world. This kind of fear is best understood as the opposite of faith. Considered from this perspective one thing should be abundantly clear. This kind of fear is sinful. That’s why God told the people of Israel in Joshua 1, “Do not fear or be dismayed.” Let’s consider how to live lives without sinful fear as we look to God’s people and their great leader, Joshua, as our example.
