Art with Altitude Magazine with Barb King and Dagny McKinley

Listen Later

Dagny McKinley and Barb King, co-publishers of the arts magazine Art with Altitude, sit down with Duke today to fill him in on everything they're doing to "elevate the arts" as they put it. As co-workers at Steamboat Creates, the pair worked on projects together and came to a mutual understanding of what art can mean for a place like Steamboat Springs, Colorado. They also understand that art, while an important factor in life in this beautiful city with the champagne powd...better not, that's trademarked I suppose. They know that while the residents in our city love, honor, and appreciate the amazing art we can find throughout the Yampa Valley, local government (like many cities in our country) has a tendency to focus on things like that powdery snow I was talking about, the amazing outdoor recreation the Yampa River brings, and all the other activities that drive visitors to The Boat.

But Barb and Dagny wonder, in this time where climate change is making real impact on weekly snow reports, will people always come to Steamboat for the snow and recreation? Or is there coming a time when we'll need to be a beacon for the arts in order to drive tourism. It's not a bad bet, and it'll pay to be ready. Art with Altitude Magazine is helping to elevate art in North-West Colorado as a way to pave the way if, but more so when, that time comes. Tune in to see what makes them tick, and how their magazine just may be our future.
