Episode 18: Welcome to this week’s episode of Art Is... a podcast for artists where Susan Hensel, a multidisciplinary artist with a current interest in digital textiles, shares wisdom from a 50+ year career as an artist.
“Art belongs everywhere,” Susan says and as an emerging artist, creating your own opportunities is your livelihood. Find your market, find your mentors and critique groups, stretch yourself further, and take yourself seriously. Ask yourself: where should my art live? Does it belong in a white cube or in a lively coffee shop? Susan dives into the importance of having mentors to learn from and critique groups to help you improve your craft. She shares personal experiences mentoring and being mentored, explaining her approach to teaching, goal setting and how she first went about setting her prices. Susan is also a gallerist and also has worked with galleries and museums so her insights and experiences are excellent food for thought.
Susan is a talented artist, lifelong learner and inspiration to all artists.
Join Isotta on today’s episode as Susan Hensel uncovers who the modern-day shaman is and how to operate at full production to get the most out of your art workday.
