Artificial Lure's Lake Fork Fishing Report: Pre-Spawn Bass, Crappie, and Catfish Heating Up!

Listen Later

Howdy, folks! This is Artificial Lure, your local Lake Fork fishing expert, coming at you with the latest report for March 23, 2025.

Let's start with the basics. Sunrise today is at 7:24 AM, and we'll see the sun dip below the horizon at 7:34 PM. That gives us a solid 12 hours of prime fishing time, so get out there early and make the most of it!

Now, onto the weather. We're looking at a partly cloudy day with temperatures climbing into the mid-60s. There's a light breeze from the southwest, which should make for some comfortable conditions out on the water.

As for the fish activity, let me tell you, it's been heating up! The water temperature is sitting around 57 degrees, and that's got the fish moving. We're seeing a lot of pre-spawn activity, with bass starting to make their way into shallower waters.

Recent catches have been impressive, with several anglers reporting largemouth bass in the 5-8 pound range. There's been a good mix of other species too, with crappie, catfish, and white bass all making appearances in the catch reports.

For you bass hunters out there, I'd recommend tying on a red square bill crankbait or a chatter bait. Work these in 3 to 5 feet of water, especially around points and in the backs of creeks. If you're looking to slow things down a bit, a wacky-rigged Senko or a Neko rig has been producing some nice fish.

Crappie fishing has been picking up too. They're starting to move shallow, so try working the bridges with minnows or small jigs. The Highway 154 and 515 bridges have been particularly productive.

For you catfish enthusiasts, cut bait or prepared stink baits are your best bet. Focus on the deeper creek channels and around submerged timber.

Now, let's talk hot spots. Birch Creek has been on fire lately, especially around that long point just before the Highway 514 bridge. Another area to check out is the cove northwest of the old Highway 17 cove, known as McAfee Branch. It's a prime spawning area and could hold some big ones.

Remember, folks, the lake is at full pool right now, so there's plenty of newly flooded cover for those bass to hunker down in. Keep an eye out for any visible cover near the shoreline and don't be afraid to pitch your bait right into the thick of it.

That's all for now, anglers. This is Artificial Lure signing off and wishing you tight lines and big catches. Y'all stay safe out there and don't forget to release those big mama bass so we can catch 'em again next year!
