FEATURING LINDSAY KOSHGARIAN - When President Joe Biden addressed the American public from the Oval office on October 19th, he made the case for renewed aid to Israel by saying that it was vital to national security and that “American leadership is what holds the world together.” He gave his remarks ahead of a request to Congress for more than $105 billion in supplemental military aid to Ukraine and Israel.  So far Israel has killed more than 4,000 people in Gaza, including hundreds of Palestinian children. Writing for the National Priorities Project, Lindsay Koshgarian says, “In the face of massive suffering in Gaza and disregard for international law by the Israeli government, the U.S. must not provide additional military aid or weapons that would cause more deaths.”

FEATURING ARUN GUPTA - The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor has said he is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli politicians including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the crime of genocide, and Hamas leaders, for other war crimes. Mr. Netanyahu remains defiant, as does U.S. President Joe Biden, who called the charges against the Israeli leader “outrageous.” Biden just gave the commencement address at Morehouse College in Atlanta, a Historically Black university, where some students silently protested his policy of continuing to arm Israel.

WANDA JOHNSON - A new documentary, released by Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY ahead of the 4th anniversary of the police murder of George Floyd, highlights how Black mothers cope with the most unimaginable loss of their lives.  The film For Our Children, by award winning Brazilian documentarian Débora Souza Silva, centers Rev. Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant. Johnson acts as a mentor to other women like her whose sons and daughters have been beaten, brutalized, and murdered by police and explores a movement of mothers determined to prevent others’ children from being victimized by the same system.

It was the third annual commemoration of a day intended to draw attention to the unsustainable costs of child care to parents and child care providers. The same day that UCLA student activists were reeling from their Free Gaza encampment being attacked by pro-Israel supporters and police officers, students at California State University of Los Angeles (Cal State LA) were busy setting up their brand new campus protest. Dozens of tents were erected just across from the campus student union on May 1st and the area barricaded by benches and tables. Young people wearing masks and keffiyahs sat and prayed, studied, quietly conversed, participated in group activities or staffed tents dedicated to food and medical aid. Members of the community who were not enrolled at the school also showed up to support.   Special thanks to Anna Buss for production assistance.
