After dipping throughout May, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the U.S. began surging in June in states like Florida, Texas, California and Arizona.

How devastating that surge will be and how long it will continue is hard to forecast, but one thing is clear: COVID-19 continues to infect — and kill — Americans.
