The mysterious case of "Who put Bella in the Wych Elm" has fascinated and perplexed investigators for over 70 years. In 1943, four boys discovered a human skull inside a hollow tree in Hagley Wood, Worcestershire, England. The body was identified as that of a woman, but her identity and cause of death were never determined. The case gained its name from graffiti found in the nearby area that read "Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?"
