Homily for Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday, a day of prayer and fasting, marks the beginning of Lent. It is a time for the renewal of our heart... a time to slow down and have a heart check. It is the best way to begin a season which calls us into self-examination as well as self-denial, into deeper contemplation about the mystery and grace of God's mercy, and towards more radical giving towards those most in need of comfort, sustenance, and hope.
This Lent, let us remember that the genuine sacrifices made out of poverty we feel in our life is more precious to God than anything we could give out of our abundance.
