Ashanti Williams - Farming, Self Care, and Moving Through the Seasons 🥕
In this episode we talk with Ashanti Williams, owner and operator of The Black Yard Farm Collective Upstate, NY.
The collective is a black centered diversified annual vegetable and livestock farm on heavily wooded property.
Originally from the Bronx, Ashanti has been passionate about growing food and working with animals most of her life, but has been doing so on a rural scale for the last 6 years.
She believes in contributing to the building of an alternative just,
diverse, and restorative food system, and incorporates these principals in the way she operates the farm.
She feels that one of the most exciting things about
farming and the creation of The Black Yard Farm is providing space and opportunity for black folks and folks of color to learn about and enjoy agricultural space stewarded by people who look like them.
Together we chat about Ashanti’s journey
into farming, living by trials and tribulations of farming with the seasonal challenges, and what her plans are for the farm in the future.
