Potatoes are the number one consumed vegetable in the United States--potatoes have been part of human civilization for thousands of years dating back more than 4000 years to the Incan civilizations and we have been cultivating and eating potatoes in dozens of different ways since then. By 1955 Ray Kroc opens the first McDonald's branch in Illinois, selling the first McDonald's fries in the world. Tater tots came from the excessive leftover scraps of french fries, and in order to not waste these, tater tots were invented. Make sure to eat the skin though...it contains the majority of the fiber and potassium.
