For season 2 we're adding little videos about places in Wiltshire, UK, giving you the chance to find out interesting things about Wiltshire and learning some German at the same time. 

For episode 1 we visited Imber on Salisbury Plain.

Here are the phrases again:

P1 Imber gibt es seit 967, aber 1943 brauchte das britische Militär einen Ort zum Üben.

T1 Imber has existed since 967, but in 1943 the British military needed a place to practice.

P2 Da Imber gut abgelegen von anderen Orten ist,....

T2 As Imber is far away from other places,....

P3 ... wurde den 150 Einwohnern eine kleine Abfindung gegeben, ....

T3 ... the 150 inhabitants were given a small compensation, ...

P4 ... und sie mussten ‚vorübergehend‘ wegziehen.

T4 ... and they had to 'temporarily' move away.

P5 Sie hatten alle gehofft, dass sie nach dem Krieg wieder zurück durften,...

T5  They had all hoped to be allowed back after the war, ...

P6 ... aber das wurde keine Wirklichkeit.

T6 ... but this did not become a reality.

P7 Das Dorf wird auch heute noch von der Armee als Übungsplatz benutzt,...

T7 The village is still used by the army as a training ground, ...

P8... aber zu Ostern, im August und um Weihnachten kann man es besuchen.

T8 ... but you can visit it at Easter, in August and around Christmas.

P9 Die St. Giles Kirche ist aus dem 13. Jahrhundert.

T9 The St Giles Church is from the 13th century.
