Love WIll Always Find A Way
This was a moving and riveting story. Sam and Riley were very well written and complimentary. What I loved most about the book is how Ms. Hestand manage to capture the lethal nature of interracial relationships in the time period. Unjust and very real death was a common result of black men and white women being together. She conveyed that very well, but wasn't heay handed about. Even today, after nearly 300 years in America, interracial love is STILL a point of contention in our country. Fortunately for all of us, Love and Life will always find a way.
Daddy's little girl was raised to be a ranch hand.
A woman running a cattle ranch was frowned upon. It just wasn't woman's work. But killing her off for it? That's a bit harsh. Still and all, that was what Riley's foreman tried to do when she refused to marry him. Along came Sam and sort of rescued her. Or did she rescue him? It's a twisted tale that includes ladies of the evening, lawyers, a dog named nodog and so much more.
It was an amusing read, but the characters just didn't quite breath quite as believably as I would have hoped. They were just too predictable and paper doll cut out to be real.
Still, a pleasant way to spend an afternoon and evening reading.
Western drawl GALORE
I am not a fan of continuous "giddy up drawl" in a Western. Most of the characters talk without that continuous drawl except for maybe one ranch hand. This book was full of it which I found enormously distracting. I know that you might say, "What did you expect? It's a Western for Pete's sake". I know, I know but I "personally" do not find it romantically appealing. Fantastic storyline however I scanned this book a lot just to get to the main of each section.

Rita Hestand is always similar stories, like waste misdeeds of Romeo and Juliet. It is always a meaningless relationship and silly, but that in the end love overcomes all obstacles. seems to speech of a politician, to demagogic. I recommend better literature
