Baptism is the entry point to participating by God’s grace in Jesus’ making creation new.
Most of us don’t remember our baptism and rightly we think of the Eucharist as being central -We are missing something if we don’t take time to see that our baptism is beginning of this new life that allows us to participate in and receive the Eucharist -Matthew’s Gospel — Go, therefore,* and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.* And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” – Mt. 28:19-20. We could say that Matthew’s presentation of the Sermon on the Mount beginning with the Beatitudes is a schooling in putting our baptism into practice. A great focus for us for Lent.
