A NEW Supernova! Just discovered today in fact at mag 14.6. Currently it is estimated to be mag 14.5, and is in the galaxy M77, well postioned to observe this time of year in the constellation Cetus.

Comet C/2017 S3 (Panstarrs) has increased in magnitued from 12.4 to 9+ in just 24 hrs!

Fred Bruenjes of DayStar Instruments created Eclipse Orchestrator to help him and others get the most of out imaging eclipses. This program however is not for the weary or chance imager, but for the experienced eclipse chaser that wants to have the best program available to plan for their imaging run.

Jen Winter and Fred Bruenjes of DayStar Instruments have a ton of years between them chasing down Solar Eclipses all over the world. They give an entertaining recap of some of the issues they have ran into over the years in planning for eclipses.

Current Role at the NSO:  Specific roles include Telescope Scientist for the NSO/McMath-Pierce Solar Facility on Kitt Peak; supervisor for technical and scientific staff members; Principal Investigator for the NSO Research Experience for Undergraduate and Teachers program; site-survey, scientific requirements design, path-finding science and instrumentation, and hiring committee work for the NSO Daniel K Inoyue Solar Telescope; envision and conduct original scientific research and co-organize an international scientific workshop; interface with international newspaper, radio and TV reporters for education and public outreach projects; participated in several proposal review panels for NASA; member of American Astronomical Society 2017 eclipse planning taskforce.

John O'Neal is a retired Steel worker who spent most of his 42 year career in the Quality end of the business in Lorain, Ohio. While there he invented two pieces of hardware that USS ultimately patented An amateur astronomer for over 40 years, his proudest achievement has been chronicling over 40 comets in 40 years. As a solar enthusiast, he's logged many hours of public outreach, published tutorials and articles and images and has a huge on-line presence and following, including his part in the founding of the Facebook group SOLARACTIVITY. Two decades ago he became a licensed Ham Radio Operator, sparking an interest in Radio Astronomy, which resulted in his building several radio telescopes. This talk discusses his interest in the SID or Sudden Ionosphere Disturbance, and the reciever he built to study this radio phenomenon.
