Maddie and Adam met up with friends, Karryn and Alex, in Louisville for a ghost tour at the Waverly Hills Sanatorium. We talk about highlights of the tour and past paranormal experiences. Karryn and Alex also share some stories from growing up, memories from college and how they both ended up living and meeting in Las Vegas. Alex talks about what led him to becoming a doctor and Karryn talks about her career as a teacher.
Our guest this episode is Maddie’s uncle, Dan Armitage. Dan shares an early memory about fishing with his dad and how he got interested in the outdoors, followed by stories about living on Nantucket with his brother, Barry, a summer in Montana and several years in the Florida Keys. A travel enthusiast, Dan talks about the most underrated and overrated places he’s been. He shares advice to his younger self and details his lifelong passion for photography. Lastly, Dan mentions meaningful advice he’s taught his son and the people he would invite to a fictional pool party. Dan is one of Ohio’s best-known outdoor writers and the host of the Buckeye Sportsman podcast. You can learn more about Dan at buckeyesportsman.net.
Adam’s youngest brother, Brian, is our guest this week. We start off by reflecting on the recent protests in Columbus sparked by the death of George Floyd. Brian then talks about living in Columbus and sharing an apartment with Adam (and Maddie, temporarily). We get into Brian’s activities growing up, including little league baseball, playing multiple instruments in the band and early jobs at a local hardware store and the city Parks and Rec Department. Brian and Adam also reflect on the service trips they went on together to New Orleans. We wrap up talking about how Brian got into DJing and music.
We have two special guests on this week’s episode—Maddie’s parents, Abbie and Barry. They share some great stories from growing up, talk about favorite (and least favorite) trips they’ve taken and discuss some of their most meaningful belongings. We wrap up with some advice to their younger selves.
**Recorded May 16, 2020** Sorry, we’re a little late in posting this episode. Thought I would try editing this one... but then I didn’t. Maybe next episode. Anyway, this week we have our first guest! My brother, Sean. We each share our highlights from the week: Sean has been gardening. Maddie’s broken sink got fixed and she talks about the trails we’ve been hiking in Cuyahoga National Park. Adam reviewed some design students’ senior thesis projects and we each share our advice for recent college graduates. We then get into the interview with Sean, where he talks about his experience in teaching, shares stories about growing up and answers some rapid-fire questions.
In our first episode of At the Moment, Maddie and Adam talk about their experiences working from home, the baby birds on Adam’s front porch, the board games they’ve been playing (and not playing) and how Adam got into magic.
