In April 2003, Ruth and Chris Baker went to Romania, to spend a couple of weeks helping at an orphanage. They believed that it would be a one-off trip - but - in their own words, God had other plans for them - and those plans involved Ruth and Chris buying a home in North East Romania and devoting their lives to Hands of Hope - a charity registered in the Isle of Man and in Romania, where they live alongside vulnerable and disadvantaged people, and where they work in the community, offering one-to-one education, befriending families, distributing aid, and giving all kinds of practical help.
Churches Bookshop have a great idea for the New Year - Andrew Wedgewood-Main (joint Manager with their wife Georgia) invites you to complete and return a short online questionnaire - in return you'll get a 'prescription' for a book they think you'll enjoy - plus 25% discount and free post and packing if you choose to buy the recommended title from them - plus a 10% voucher to use against any future purchase.
And there's music too - chosen by the Bakers - Every Nation sung by Living Hope church here on the Island, and Be Still and Know - based on Psalm 46 and sung in a mix of English and Ukranian by Southlands Church.
There's notice board news too - items for the notice board can be emailed:
