An atheist wants the phrase “so help me God” removed from the oath for U.S. citizenship. French national and green card holder Olga Paule Perrier-Bilbo has filed a federal lawsuit saying that “the current oath violates the first ten words of the Bill of Rights” – even though people seeking citizenship are given the option to omit “so help me God” in their oath. She claims that alternatives aren’t good enough.
