The New Hoodoo

ATR's

Listen Later

Welcome to episode five of The Pillars, the Porch and the Path. In this episode we dig into ATR’s, or, African Traditional Religions which we refer to as African traditional spiritual belief systems and what we’ve explored about them thus far on our Path. This is a broad, multi-faceted topic and we discuss many aspects of ATR’S from how these spiritual belief systems were sytematically taken from enslaved Africans during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade to the revival of the traditions all over the African Diaspora today. We discuss how religious syncretism, dance and drumming was utilized to hide and to pass these traditions on. And in true BLERD style, we share our favorite authors and books on this vast and complex topic!
