Attachment

Listen Later

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about understanding that we have so many attachments and that, if we could release those attachments, we could open up and create a whole new set of opportunities for ourselves.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • A scholar named Ainsworth defines three main types of attachment, but later researchers found four: Secure attachment; Anxious insecure; Avoidant insecure; Disorganised insecure.
  • Secure attachment is about being available, sensitive, responsive, accepting. Anxious insecure attachment is when someone becomes more demanding or clingy, hoping that their exaggerated distress will force the partner to react. A lack of predictability eventually means the person becomes needy, angry and distrustful. Avoidant insecure attachment is when someone has trouble accepting and responding sensitively to their partner’s needs. Instead of comforting the partner they minimise their feelings, reject their demands and don’t help with difficult tasks which leads to avoidant and insecure attachment.
  • Take something that’s really important to you, that you’re really invested in, let’s say a stock. What happens now if you liquidated that stock and you weren’t attached to it? You could do anything with that liquidity now created. What about your car? We know electric cars are coming, sooner or later it’ll be electric only, are you attached to your car? Do you give it a name? Have you had a lot of experiences in it? If you were offered another car at the same price point that had some angle of benefit (a bigger windscreen, five doors instead of three) would you change to the new car, or are you attached to your old car? The possibility to take the new car only becomes available when you decide you are not attached to your car. We can pretty much apply this to anything in our lives.

BEST MOMENTS

‘So often, partners that display avoidant insecure attachment behaviours have a past that includes unresolved trauma.’
‘The calmer you are, the easier it is to release the ego. But, the ego is so well trained that it’s difficult to release it completely.’

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
