In June 2018, 29-year-old Tatiane Spitzner, a university professor and martial arts instructor in Guarapuava, Brazil, was found dead under a bridge near her home, her body discovered hours after she was last seen at a birthday party. What initially looked like a tragic fall quickly turned into a harrowing case of betrayal.

Investigators revealed that Tatiane’s boyfriend, Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues, had violently assaulted her in the hours before her death. Evidence showed that Rodrigo had beaten her and then staged her fall from the elevated bridge in an attempt to cover up the crime. Surveillance footage and witness testimony ultimately contradicted his version of events.

At trial, prosecutors demonstrated that the injuries Tatiane sustained were consistent with a severe beating prior to the fall, and that Cristiano’s behavior after the incident suggested guilt and an attempt to mislead investigators. In 2021, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to 37 years in prison.
