NIWA's principal scientist Chris Brandolino says the worst's over but Auckland's not out of the woods yet.
Brandolino says winds this morning won't be as strong as last night, but could still reach 90km/h.
He says there'll be some rain and possibly hail as cold air travels across the warm ocean.
Brandolino told Mike Hosking it's still enough to urge caution travelling to work or if you're getting out of the house.
"Any weakened tree limbs or branches that did not come down last night may be finished off this morning with stronger wind gusts expected."
