This Lecture deals with the Biblical Theological as well as Systematic Theological place, function, and significance of the Epistle of James in the Canon of Scripture. Written by James, the Brother of Christ, most likely in the mid to late forties, it addresses the worldwide Church, although it consists of mostly Jewish Christians at the time of its writing, well before Paul took center stage and definitely before the Jerusalem Council of Acts 15 and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. The early date and the initial addressees are more than suggested by the “Jewishness” of James’ choice of words and concepts and the total lack of any reference to the “monumental” events that took place one or more decades later in the history of the Early Church.
