VISIONS OF GENIUS: Jung, Joyce and Lucia
A play written by Jungian Analyst Del McNeely and performed as a benefit for the C. G. Jung Society of New Orleans
SYNOPSIS:
Carl Jung and James Joyce lived in Zurich and circled each other for a
time. Their lives touched at three important junctions: 1) Jung had a friend and
student (Edith McCormick) who generously contributed to his work and also
supported Joyce for a while. She encouraged Joyce to see Jung in analysis, but Joyce refused. After a while, she was afraid Joyce was squandering her money and stopped his stipends.
A play that raises questions about art and madness
What happens in the individuation process of the artistic genius?
What is the role of the artist in modern society?
What is the responsibility of the psychologist to the artistic genius? And to the artist's children?
What differences exist in our attitudes toward emotional behavior between men and women?
