UM System President Dr. Mun Choi is in his eighth year as system president, and in his fifth year as Mizzou's chancellor. It's no secret that other universities have tried to recruit him for his success at Mizzou. President Choi joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday on 939 the Eagle's "CEO Roundtable," and they addressed the issue during the one-hour interview. President Choi tells listeners that he will stay in Columbia as long as the board will have him, adding that he believes this will be last academic leadership position. President Choi says that he has
"a great deal of respect for not only the university but people that love this university. And there are so many of them out there." Fred also asked President Choi about the UM Board of Curators, which Mr. Parry describes as "hands-on." President Choi tells listeners that he appreciates the board of curators and that they're hands-on because they're dealing with many critical issues. Enrollment and Mizzou football also came up. President Choi is excited that Mizzou is expecting an 18 percent increase in the size of this year's freshmen class, compared to 2023. He expects Mizzou to have about 1,050 more freshmen this fall than last year. President Choi tells listeners that freshmen enrollment from in-state students saw a significant increase, but says the increase from out-of-state freshmen students was more important. President Choi says Mizzou receives about 20 percent of freshmen students from the state of Illinois. "And (in) the state of Illinois, the cost of education is much higher than what it is in Missouri," President Choi tells listeners. He's also thrilled with the job Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz and new athletic director Laird Veatch are doing. Mizzou football finished the 2023 season with an 11-2 record, beating Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl and finishing the season ranked eighth in the nation:
