In the 16th century science becomes hugely popular. The study of classical texts marks the beginning of critical and independent research. Whereas formerly knowledge was available only in manuscripts, it is now being printed in large quantities. As a result science develops at an amazing speed. The authorities do not know where to look first in trying to control this new influx of information and knowledge.
