For many generations, people had to deal with the scarcity of resources. Back in the day, if you used up to many resources, you might run out and end up with nothing and pass away. Since this happened for many generations in the past, we still have those voices that tell us we need certain things. That's why we tell ourselves that we shouldn't do something to conserve energy or we will get upset when something is taken away from us because we don't know if we'll get that item back in our life. Biological creatures normally prefer effort minimization in routine activities and don't like the removal of long-enjoyed benefits.
The world is so much different today than at any point in the past terms of our access to things. We can pretty much get anything we want and we have to have a growth mindset that tells us that we need to overcome effort minimization and accept the loss of a long-enjoyed benefit in order to reach our goals.
A lot of the things that we enjoy and fear are what happened to our ancestors a long time ago and we just need to have the self-awareness to know what is valid still and what is not. You wouldn't use a beeper to contact your friends, so why are you going to keep your fears and habits and keep you in the past as well? You shouldn't.
