August Events in Oklahoma

Listen Later

What are you doing in August?   We are discussing some of the fun events happening throughout Oklahoma during the month of August.  If you want to find something new to do this month, check out the show.   DOCOKC is hosting it's first non-fiction festival in Oklahoma City. DocOKC offers multiple awards categories, and is a designed to bring powerful documentaries from all over the world to an audience that loves real stories.   Oklahoma City embodies the Modern Frontier and defines its own future. A young city steeped in Native American and Western culture, openness, and an enterprising nature, OKC embraces its roots and continues to pave the way as a center of innovation and entrepreneurship.   Established in 1915, the Mountain View Free Fair is an annual community fair and one of the oldest community fairs in the state. Highlights at the annual event will include carnival rides, live entertainment, games, arts and crafts, exhibits and hometown food stands.   The Town of Mountain View was born as a "tent city" in Washita County, and grew up as a permanent community in Kiowa County. In 1897, the railroad built a roundhouse here so the trains could turn around to return to Chickasha. Standing on that site in 1898, railroad officials suggested the name "Mountain View".   Oklahoma City's Horror Con is a Horror themed, family-friendly event! The show consists of celebrity guests, the BEST vendors in the region, cosplay, Q&A's panels, cosplay contests, Scaryokie, and many more spooky events.   Witness seasoned craftsmen transform wood, ceramics and other materials into works of art at the annual Woodcarving & Folk Arts Festival in Broken Arrow. For over 30 years, this event has celebrated the art of folk crafts and traditional carving practices, featuring woodcarvers, woodturners, woodworkers, wood burners, scroll sawyers and more.   Broken Arrow is full of hometown charm and suburban amenities. Visitors enjoy challenging golf courses and pampering day spas as well as unique shopping, interesting attractions and family-friendly festivals and events.   The Bristow Western Heritage Days Festival features a huge parade, a variety of vendors, live music, activities, contests and more. Join in for shopping, food and fun.   Bristow is a city in Creek County located in Oklahoma's Green Country.  Bristow began in 1898, when the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway built a track between Sapulpa and Oklahoma City. The town was named for US Senator, Joseph L. Bristow and is now located on historic Route 66.   Savor four days of hilarity when the Blue Whale Comedy Festival takes over the Tulsa Arts District. Held at several different venues, this district-wide festival brings together some of the sharpest minds from all spectrums of underground comedy, including stand-up, improv, film, podcasting and music.   Tulsa is a city on the Arkansas River. It’s known for its art deco architecture, mostly in the central Deco District. Landmarks like the Philcade and Philtower buildings reflect a 20th-century construction boom fueled by the prosperous local oil industry.   #TravelOK #onlyinokshow #Oklahoma #MadeinOklahoma #oklaproud #podcast #okherewego #traveloklahoma #events  #August #festival #movies #documentaty #okc #Convention #art #heritage #parade #concert #music #food #chickasawcountry #visitchoctawcountry #comedy
