Augustine understands that we struggle to know our own souls, to love in a greater capacity, to fight against the currents of the human condition. And so we pray to be awakened with the essence of God's Divine Love. But it requires a great deal of this essence to be awakened, and thus our prayers must be sincere and intense with great faith and great desire.
