The Australian government has announced changes to work restrictions for international students. Starting from 1st July, the work restrictions will be reintroduced, limiting international students to work for only 48 hours per fortnight. This change will mark the end of relaxed work restrictions that were implemented during the pandemic and removed in January 2022.
Additionally, the government has released a list of eligible qualifications and occupations in the fields of health, teaching, engineering, and agriculture. Graduates who hold these qualifications will be granted extended work rights after they graduate, which will come into effect on 1st July. This means that select bachelor’s degrees will have their working rights extended from two years to four years, select master’s degrees from three years to five years, and all doctoral degrees from four years to six years. These changes aim to address workforce shortages and provide more opportunities for international students.
