The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) allows for new work-based migration pathways for international students, skilled migrants, and visitors. Indian students can stay up to 18 months upon completing a diploma or trade qualification, up to 2 years after a bachelor's degree, up to 3 years after a master's degree, and up to 4 years after a doctoral degree. Those with First Class Honours bachelor's degrees in STEM and ICT sectors are eligible for 3 years on post-study visas. 1000 Indian citizens between 18-30 years old can get Work and Holiday visas annually, and 1800 qualified Indian traditional chefs and yoga instructors can temporarily enter as Contractual Service Suppliers of India. Current sponsorship requirements for employers who want to hire overseas workers will remain after ECTA enters into force, and the framework is expected to be implemented in 2023.
